Since its launch in 2015, the PP-2000 has served as a reference MC cartridge for over a decade, widely used by manufacturers and media alike. We regret to announce that production of the PP-2000 has now come to an end. In 2026, we proudly introduce its successor, the new PP-2200.The PP-2200 has been developed as a new standard MC cartridge to replace the PP-2000.
After a decade, the new reference MC cartridge, PP-2200, was born in pursuit of even greater performance.
Its development began when it became increasingly difficult to continue production of the previous model, the PP-2000. While new analog records are steadily increasing and the culture of vinyl playback is regaining momentum, the environment surrounding parts processing and supply has become more challenging than ever. In particular, we concluded that a new product was essential in order to maintain and further enhance the body case design and DLC quality to which Phasemation has remained deeply committed. Accordingly, we undertook a fundamental review of the structure and each component directly affecting sound quality, aiming to evolve beyond the PP-2000.The PP-2200 has been completed as a new reference for MC cartridges, and we proudly present it with full confidence.
The first area addressed in the development of the PP-2200 was the magnetic circuit. Its balance was thoroughly reexamined to achieve highly efficient power generation. As a result, the cartridge delivers greater resolution of fine musical nuances and a more immersive soundstage.
While the stylus tip and cantilever are critical components, in MC cartridges the body case is also a key factor influencing sound quality. This marks another major advancement in the PP-2200.The housing shape was redesigned, consolidating contact points into a single location. Precision machining was entrusted to Yuki Precision Co., known for the high-performance turntable AP-01. Additionally, the body material has been changed from duralumin to titanium. The use of this more rigid material, combined with the new structure, significantly reduces unwanted sound smearing.
Mounting an MC cartridge requires great care, even for experienced users. In particular, attaching delicate shell leads without causing damage can be challenging. To improve usability, the PP-2200 features tapered terminals. The narrowed tip allows for smoother and easier attachment, even with tighter shell leads.
Phasemation, as a Japanese audio brand, places great importance on expressing a sense of Japanese aesthetics not only in internal design but also in external elements. This philosophy is reflected in details such as the traditional patterns used in vacuum tube amplifier covers. The PP-2200 is presented in a premium wooden case inspired by traditional Yosegi craftsmanship, offering both elegance and practicality for storage and transport.
As a new accessory, the PP-2200 comes with a cleaning brush specifically designed for the stylus tip.
